The Power of CBTa™: How Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Can Shift ADHD

A Specialized Therapy Model for ADHD

  • ADHD therapy needs to be specifically tailored to the ADHD brain.

  • CBTa™ is a groundbreaking therapy model built on science and client feedback.

  • CBTa™ promotes ADHD Literacy, reshaping core beliefs and fostering true change.

As you might know, 1 in 4 people have ADHD brains, yet most therapy is still designed for neurotypical minds. It’s like being trained to treat right-handers while our clients are left-handed. If you’ve tried traditional therapy and felt it didn’t quite “fit,” you’re not alone. Many of my clients have shared the same frustrations.
That’s where CBTa™—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy adapted specifically for ADHD—comes in. After 20 years of specializing in both CBT and ADHD, I’m excited to share this science-based, client-tested adaptation that truly meets the needs of ADHDers.

Why Traditional Therapy Doesn’t Always Fit ADHD

Traditional therapy often addresses emotional or behavioral issues in ways that work for neurotypical brains. Strategies like “stick to a routine” don’t account for how an ADHD brain processes information and formulates actions. For example, therapies don’t typically consider the ADHD brain’s Default Mode Network (DMN)—a key difference between ADHD and non-ADHD clients.

CBTa™ is different because it acknowledges the specific needs of ADHDers, including:

• ADHD Literacy.

• ADHD-specific psychology.

• Methods that align with the ADHD brain’s unique wiring and societal challenges.

How CBTa™ Shifts ADHD Psychology

CBTa™ helps ADHDers heal from adversity, mistreatment, and misunderstanding experienced throughout life, whether from parents, teachers, peers, or coworkers. Many ADHDers carry core beliefs that they are “damaged” or “unworthy.” Traditional CBT might not address these deep-seated issues, but CBTa™ does by reshaping beliefs and thought patterns to rebuild self-esteem and confidence.

Research backs this need for ADHD-specific adaptations in therapy. For example, a study calls for more attention to adapting CBT for ADHD (William, S., Horrocks, M., Richmond J., Hall, C.L., & French B. (2024). Experience of CBT in adults with ADHD: a mixed methods study. Frontiers in Psychiatry, 15, 1341624. doi: 10.3389/fpsyt.2024.1341624). While CBTa™ is not yet rigorously studied, the demand for more specialized ADHD approaches is clear.

How CBTa™ Shifts ADHD Psychology:

• Addresses ADHD-specific core beliefs that are shaped by negative experiences.

• Helps clients unmask their true selves and stop feeling misunderstood in therapy.

• Uses neuroscience and ADHD psychology to tailor therapeutic methods that resonate deeply with ADHD clients.

Building Lasting Habits with CBTa™

One of the biggest challenges ADHDers face is creating and sticking to new habits. While traditional therapy might suggest strategies like “just set alarms” or “make a to-do list,” these often fail because they don’t align with ADHD brain wiring. CBTa™ focuses on ADHD Literacy, helping clients understand their brain and guiding them to strategies that work for them, not against them.

CBTa™ is a groundbreaking therapy model designed specifically for ADHD. It bridges the gap where traditional therapy falls short, providing ADHDers with the tools and understanding they need to reshape their thoughts, beliefs, and habits. Ready to try an approach that truly meets your needs?

Let’s work together to build the tools and habits that fit your ADHD brain.
